Burntwood Town Council’s series of Play in the Parks events are returning for the summer holidays.

Burntwood Town Council has achieved the silver standard of the ‘Charter for the Bereaved’ for Burntwood Cemetery.

The much-loved Burntwood Wakes Festival will be returning on Saturday 18th July, 12 - 4pm to Burntwood Leisure Centre.

At its Annual Meeting on 20 May, Burntwood Town Council elected Cllr Sue Woodward as its chair, and Cllr Michael Galvin as vice chair for the coming civic year.

Over the last 12 months, Burntwood Town Council has invested over £32,000 in grants to support local community groups, charities, and projects across the town through it’s Better Burntwood Fund.

Burntwood Market is returning on Sunday 12th April. The market will be held on the second Sunday of each month from April to October at Sankey’s Corner.

As part of the national Women’s Institute’s Great Big Green Week, Burntwood WI have created a display at Princes Park raising awareness of the need for clean rivers. The park has been decorated with fabrics and handmade fish which the members of Burntwood WI have created using funds from Burntwood Town Council’s Better Burntwood Fund.

In April 2024, Burntwood Town Council awarded two local organisations a grant of £5,000 per year for three years to provide services that support adult mental health and wellbeing, and young people. Members of Burntwood Town Council have been reflecting on events from 80 Years ago, when British and Allied Forces started the liberation of Europe on D-Day. Councillors gathered at the Old Mining College to consider the unity, effort and sacrifices made.

With the purchase of the former Methodist Church in Princess St completed just before Christmas, Burntwood Town Council is now working to reopen the building as a community centre as soon as possible.
