NOTICE OF FILLING A CASUAL VACANCY FOR A COUNCILLOR BY CO-OPTION
Pursuant to the Notice issued and published on 1 July 2025 by the Town Clerk to the Town Council, information is hereby given that no Notice requesting a Poll has been delivered to the Returning Officer by the due date for receipt of such a Notice.
The Town Council will therefore fill the vacancy by co-option at a Meeting to be held at Chase Terrace Community Centre, Princess Street, Burntwood on Thursday 25 September 2025.
Persons wishing to be considered for co-option, and who fulfil the requirements for appointment as Town Councillors for this parish, are invited to give notification in writing/ email of their willingness to be considered for co-option to the Town Clerk to the Town Council by midnight on Tuesday 2 September 2025.
Potential Councillors must be 18 years of age or over, their name should appear on the current register of local government electors for Burntwood or the applicant should, during the whole of the twelve months preceding the date of appointment, have resided in or within three miles of the town or the applicant’s only place of work during that period should have been in the town. Applicants must not be debarred from serving as a councillor.
The notification should include relevant background information that will assist the Town Council in forming an opinion as to a candidate’s suitability for co-option. Candidates will also have the opportunity to speak at the Meeting of the Town Council on 25 September 2025, prior to the selection proceeding.
