As part of the national Women’s Institute’s Great Big Green Week, Burntwood WI have created a display at Princes Park raising awareness of the need for clean rivers. The park has been decorated with fabrics and handmade fish which the members of Burntwood WI have created using funds from Burntwood Town Council’s Better Burntwood Fund.

In April 2024, Burntwood Town Council awarded two local organisations a grant of £5,000 per year for three years to provide services that support adult mental health and wellbeing, and young people. Platinum Boxing and Burton and District Mind each received a grant, and one year, the Town Council has been celebrating the success of these projects.

At its Annual Meeting on 22 May, Burntwood Town Council elected Cllr Laura Ennis as its new Chair and Cllr Sue Woodward as Vice Chair for the coming civic year.

The founder of a charity supporting victims of domestic abuse has been appointed as the new chair of Burntwood Town Council. Councillor Kathy Coe MBE was confirmed in the role at a recent meeting of the authority held on 23 May 2024. Councillor Laura Ennis was appointed as Vice-Chair of the council.

At the Annual Town Council, Councillor Di Evans presented Kathy Louis, Burntwood Be A Friend Well-being/Volunteer Coordinator with a cheque for £500. Councillor Evans chose Burntwood Be A Friend as her charity for her team of office 2023/24.

The outgoing Chair of Burntwood Town Council says she has been privileged to represent the community. Councillor Di Evans will hand over the chains to a new member of the authority on Thursday 23 May.

Over the next few weeks we will be installing cycle racks at each of our shopping areas to enable residents to cycle to local businesses and lock their bikes securely.

On 01 February, Cllr Darren Ennis and Cllr Di Evans attended the opening of  Burntwood Leisure Centre's Active Kids Zone earlier today, a fantastic new soft play facility suitable for under 10s. The Leisure Centre are offering free entry until 4th February, and it will also be free during February half term!

It was a lovely event, which I hope was enjoyed by all.

A very enjoyable morning at MacMillan Coffee Morning, judging the cake competion held at Burntwood Leisure Centre. Also Attended Housing 21 Smalley Court 40th Anniversay and what a good day was had by all.

It was a pleasure to officially open the Wakes Festival 2023, despite the rain, a good day was had by everyone who attended.

In the afternoon of 01 July I visited along with Cllr Coe Chase View Care Home and enjoyed meeting residents and visitors.

Myself and Cllr Coe spent the morning of Saturday 01 July at the launch of the Knife Angel in Lichfield.

Cllr Di Evans called in to see Friends of Burntwood Library’s Crafty Crafters group on Tuesday 20 June and have a look at the wonderful banner they are putting together to raise awareness of #dementia in our community.

At Christmas most of us are able to take some time for friends and family as we celebrate the festive season with those, we hold dear. We exchange gifts and take time to reflect on the year that has gone as well as what lies ahead for 2023.

I was delighted to be asked to open the new library at Fulfen school and to see the amazing and exciting books that are available for the students to read.

This is the week of Children’s Mental Health and today I was invited to Chase Terrace Academy to open their Safe Space initiative

As this year is rapidly drawing to a close, with Christmas and the New Year fast approaching, now is the time to reflect on the past year in the hope that 2022 will be much more settled and safer for all of us.

As we approach Christmas this year, it is going to be a very different occasion than we are used to, but I hope everybody in Burntwood will have a safe and enjoyable time.

August 15th is the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day. Victory in Japan in 1945 is often not given the recognition it deserves.
