13 November – The launch of the climbing wall, Burntwood Leisure Centre

I’ve not really been a sporting person. but I was very impressed with the new climbing wall which opened at Burntwood Leisure Centre.   We watched as some of the staff competed to climb in the shortest time, and some practising on the harder walls.  It is really tough and I imagine that your legs would ache when you have climbed up.

22 November – Places of Welcome Celebration, Lichfield Garrick Theatre

It was lovely to go to the Garrick Theatre which is newly refurbished and looking very smart and new.  Places of Welcome were opened to give older or more vulnerable people a safe space, a cup of tea or coffee, biscuits or cake and most of all friendly faces to talk to.   It has moved on from it’s original purpose to some extent.   Opened to help people have a warm place to go and save on their own heating costs, and still doing that, it also provides a lovely meeting place where people regularly get together and do crafting,  or jigsaws, or simply sit and talk.   At St John’s Church in Burntwood I am available every Monday morning between 10,30-12.30 to support anyone who has lived with issues of domestic or sexual abuse.  But back to the celebration of the Places of Welcome – it was lovely to be there with like minded people and the Town Crier, to share experiences and to meet old friends too.   Long may these services continue and provide friendship and fun to many people.

 

24 November – Switch On of Swan Island Xmas lights

I love Christmas and enjoy seeing my own tree with lots of lights and decorations.   I really enjoyed turning on the lights at Swan Island.   Despite the weather including the storm Bert, lots of people were there to see Santa, to hear the wonderful children’s choir and to see the amazing lights on the tree, each one in memory of loved ones who have been lost.  Burntwood Rotary use this to raise funds for charity each year.   I would like to thank them for the work they do in our area to support many charities.   I was handed the box with the large red button which was a little bit scary but the lights came on during the countdown and everything went really well.

 

28 November – Jack and the Beanstalk Panto, Lichfield Garrick Theatre

Last night myself and Councillor Laura Ennis joined Lichfield’s VIPs to enjoy drinks and nibbles and to watch the panto, Jack and the Beanstalk.   We laughed a lot and enjoyed the local jokes and references and the fun that radiated around children ,young and much older.   All the childish sense of humour returned.   The children were very funny and took the fun to a whole new level.   If you are looking for a treat for your family over the Christmas period you need to look no further for a very entertaining time.
