Chase Terrace Community Centre
Chase Terrace Community Centre was purchased and redeveloped by the Town Council to create a vibrant, functional and affordable community space for the benefit of Burntwood residents and it’s thriving community and voluntary sector.
Background
Formerly Chase Terrace Methodist Church, the building is of local historic significance. Built in 1870, it is a typical example of Primitive Methodist chapels in Staffordshire and elsewhere, serving the former mining village of Chase Terrace which was one of the four villages which became the town of Burntwood in the 1970s.
The Church was redeveloped for community use in the early 2000s as part of a Single Regeneration Budget scheme which had significant local, council support as well as from other funding bodies. The building was then used for almost 20 years as a meeting place for numerous local community groups and the church itself hosted lunch clubs and coffee mornings.
With an increasingly elderly membership along with the impacts of the pandemic, membership declined, and the Methodist Church closed the building as a place of worship in August 2022. However, a group of former Church members along with Burntwood Town Council sought to retain the building for community use and launched a petition to this effect which received almost 1,000 signatures. In addition, an application for the building to be listed as an Asset of Community Value was submitted and approved by Lichfield District Council safeguarding it from development. Burntwood Town Council completed the purchase of the building in December 2023.
Renovations and opening
In May 2024, Burntwood Town Council successfully applied and were awarded a grant from the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund, enabling substantial renovations of the building to turn it from a dated church building to a vibrant community centre, which was officially opened on the 8th August 2025 by Councillor Sue Woodward.

Chase Terrace Community Centre consists of a main hall, community room, kitchen, toilets including an accessible toilet, and a car park with 9 standard and 1 disabled space.
Opening Times
Available 7 days a week, with sessional rather than hourly bookings available.
Sessions
Morning 9am – 1pm, afternoon 1:30 – 5:30pm and evening, 6 – 11pm.
Hire Charges
Repeat bookings (minimum of one booking each fortnight over 2 months):
- Main Hall – £25 per session
- Community Room – £20 per session
- Kitchen – £10 per session (only one hirer per session for kitchen)
- Hire of whole Community Centre – £50 per session
One off booking:
- Main Hall – £30 per session
- Community Room – £25 per session
- Kitchen – £15 per session (only one hirer per session for kitchen)
- Hire of whole Community Centre – £60 per session
All hire charges are inclusive of VAT.
Discounts
Support from Burntwood Town Council may be available to enable small local organisations to access Chase Terrace Community Centre. A discount of up to 100% may be offered at the Councils discretion if the following criteria are met:
- Is the group local to the parish of Burntwood, with most members being from and residing in Burntwood?
- Does the organisation face barriers to funding from other sources?
- Does the group lack the skills and experience, or number of volunteers to formalise their group?
- Is the group a new group, starting up and forming?
If at least two of these criteria are met, the Town Clerk (in consultation with the Chair of Policy and Resources) may waive the room hire fee or offer a discount for up to 6 months, when the offer can be reviewed and if necessary extended.
