Burntwood Town Council have announced the winners of their Student Award in memory of Stephen Sutton MBE.

The BTC Student Award was launched in 2015 to celebrate the life and achievements of Stephen Sutton MBE, and is available to talented young people to give them a practical helping hand in developing their skills and going on to achieve even greater things.

Oliver Larner and Lucy Wolyniec have each received £1,000 in recognition of their outstanding achievements and aspirations.

Oliver is a talented cyclist who trains with Lichfield Cycling Club and competes regionally and nationally, and Lucy is an accomplished swimmer who trains with Walsall Swimming Club, and is a youth ambassador for Swim England West Midlands.

Councillor Laura Ennis, Chair of Burntwood Town Council said:

“It was wonderful to meet Ollie and Lucy who have been picked to receive this year’s Student Award. The Award is in memory of Stephen Sutton MBE who as we know sadly passed away in 2014. Burntwood Town Council decided to honour Stephen by offering this award to invest in young people in our town, to help them to achieve or aim for a goal that may have been harder without it. The Award is available each year and every year we are blown away with what the young people of our town have achieved.”

Councillor Di Evans, Chair of Community and Partnerships Committee added:

“Burntwood Town Council is proud to recognise and support the talents of the young people of Burntwood. Lucy is an aspiring swimmer who is keen to help others develop their swimming skills as well as competing herself. Ollie is a very enthusiastic cyclist who has been cycling from an early age and he hopes to continue competing in this country and abroad. We wish them both every success in their chosen areas and hope the Student Award will help their ambitions.”
