It has been a strange few years recently, and if we go back a while, we all saw how our community came together to support each other during the pandemic. It was inspiring to see just how much we can change our community when we choose to, and I hope that we can grow that spirit again during challenges like the ongoing cost of living crisis and the extreme weather conditions that we have experienced.
So – a new year and a new start, and an opportunity to do more, to make life better for each other. As Chair of Burntwood Town Council this year I want to do things that make life feel a bit easier. The first thing I want to tell you about is a celebration event for carers. It is aimed at those amazing, unpaid family members and friends who care for loved ones without any reward or recognition. We will be celebrating their commitment on 28 January at Burntwood Library for an afternoon tea at 2.00pm to 3.30pm. We will have support for the people cared for to be there with their carers. If you or someone you know would like to join us please get in touch.
I am also raising money for Pathway Project, my charity of the year and I am planning some fundraising events. I will be hosting a charity quiz night on Saturday 3rd May in the evening at St Matthews Social Club, so please bring a team along and have fun while helping us to make some money for Pathway who support families who are living with or escaping domestic abuse. Please watch out for tickets which will be available soon.
We know that some difficulties stay with us but if we support each other, we can manage this year together. Please be assured that if you have any problems that we can help you with, you can contact your ward Councillors or our staff at the Town Council on 01543 677166 or info@burntwood-tc.gov.uk. We will be happy to do what we can to support you.
2025 is a new year and a new hope. Wishing you the very best for this new year.
Cllr Kathy Coe MBE
Chair of Burntwood Town Council
