Burntwood Town Council have announced the winners of their Student Award in memory of Stephen Sutton MBE.

The BTC Student Award was launched in 2015 to celebrate the life and achievements of Stephen Sutton MBE, and is available to talented young people to give them a practical helping hand in developing their skills and going on to achieve even greater things.

Hannah Daniels and Emily Edis have each received £1,000 in recognition of their outstanding achievements and aspirations.

Hannah is a talented hockey player who now trains with England Hockey Talent Academy and aspires to one day play for Team GB.

Emily is an accomplished and committed horse rider competing in different areas of equine sports and has ambitions to turn her passion into a full-time career.

Councillor Di Evans, Chair of Community and Partnerships Committee said:

“Every year Burntwood Town Council has been very pleased to award two young people who live in Burntwood a grant of £1000 to enable and support them to develop their talents in either the creative, sporting or academic fields.

This Award is in memory of Stephen Sutton, a talented student who sadly passed away aged 19, but who achieved so much and left an outstanding legacy.”

Councillor Paul Taylor, Vice Chair of Community and Partnerships Committee added:

“We are incredibly proud to support Hannah and Emily with this year’s Student Award. Both show exceptional talent and dedication – Hannah in hockey and Emily in equestrian sports. These two young athletes stood out from a strong field of applicants, each with the potential to represent our Country.

As a Council, we’re pleased to support local talent through the Burntwood Town Council Student Award in memory of Stephen Sutton. I look forward to following their progress in the years ahead.”
