The Old Mining College Centre was originally built in 1912 by Staffordshire County Council as an educational facility to train mine workers in health and safety after a series of pit disasters. Later, it expanded to include night school classes for members of the public and was operated by Cannock Chase Technical College, and was known as “The Annex”.

During the Second World War it was used for the administration of ration cards, and by local air raid wardens.

By the 1980’s it was being used to store road equipment and was falling into neglect. In the late 1990’s Lichfield District Council sought a long lease from the County Council in order to turn it into a community hub. After investing some £450,000 and refurbishing and extending the building, the District Council reopened it as the Chasetown Community Resource Centre with office space for small businesses and charities, and meeting and training rooms. The name was quickly changed to The Old Mining College Centre, as that what local people referred to it as.

Since then, it has been a busy centre for community activities hosting a variety of community activities and supporting several valuable voluntary sector services, as well as being home to a number of small local businesses.

In September 2015, the lease was transferred to Burntwood Town Council who now operate the building.
